Is a Tankless Water Heater Right for Me?

Picture this: you wake up late for work, sprint to the bathroom and jump in the shower, only to realize there’s no hot water.

Sounds like something out of a nightmare, right?

Fortunately, a water heater repair or installation are common plumbing services. If your water heater is fairly new, you can have it repaired and enjoy hot water in no time. But if you’re one of the 27 million homes in the U.S. that have a water heater older than 10 years, you may want to consider replacing it. There are many types of hot water heaters, but a common choice for many homeowners is a tankless water heater. If you’re unsure whether or not a tankless model is right for you, this article is going to discuss some of the pros and cons of tankless water heaters.

One of the biggest advantages of a tankless water heater is its size. Without a tank, these models take up less room than traditional models with tanks. This can be extremely beneficial for homeowners who have limited space in their basements and want something that will take up less room. Tankless water heaters can conveniently fit in tight locations that normally couldn’t be utilized.

Additionally, you’ll never have to worry about running out of hot water again. Tankless models offer an unlimited supply of hot water, making them ideal for people who enjoy very long showers or houses with multiple people living in them. However, how much water can be delivered at the same time can be limited. Because tankless water heaters need to heat the water while it’s passing through the pipes, this may mean less hot water supply. But if they choose the right size model, homeowners won’t have to worry about this.

And lastly, tankless water heaters can offer significant energy savings. Without having a tank of heated water having to be continuously kept hot, homeowners will experience less standby energy losses. This is one of the main reasons people invest in tankless models. Because they’re so much more efficient than traditional models, tankless heaters can save serious money on monthly energy bills.

While the upfront cost may be more expensive than traditional models, tankless heaters generally last longer than those with tanks and reduce energy expenses. So if you’re looking for a new water heater, talk to your local plumber about installing a tankless water heater.
